Rural Foods was started by us - Simon and Sam Speight - to satisfy our desire for traditional, delicious food made from seasonal ingredients. We began by growing fruit and vegetables on our 3-acre smallholding and selling the surplus. However demand soon outstripped supply and we now source our fruit and vegetables from other local producers, many of them organic or grown with the least possible use of chemicals. We currently have our own small flock of Dorset-cross sheep, which provides lamb in season. The offspring of our free-range Oxford Sandy and Black sow provide pork and bacon which is locally butchered and cured . Fantastic beef comes from our neighbours' herds of pedigree Hereford or Aberdeen Angus cattle, reared in the rich West Dorset meadows. Another neighbour provides delicious, free-range chickens.
Our aim has been always to find
and supply the kind of food we have always searched for ourselves. We
